Famed Kiwi soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa to sell $5 million art collection in Auckland

An art collection owned by renowned Kiwi opera singer Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, worth between $4-5 million, is up for auction in Auckland.

Te Kanawa's collection will be put to sale at the International Art Centre in Parnell on April 10, Stuff reported.

It will be an auction of Important and Rare Art and include three significant paintings by New Zealander Charles Goldie, and several works by prominent Australian artists, including Arthur Boyd and Lloyd Rees.

Te Kanawa's art is under heavy security after two paintings by New Zealander Gottfried Lindauer were stolen at the International Art Centre in Parnell almost exactly a year ago.

The majority of Te Kanawa's collection is set to go under the hammer has been on long term loan to the Auckland Art Gallery for 25 years.

The three works by Charles Goldie include an oil painting of a chieftain of the Arawa Tribe named Wharekauri Tahuna.

Another painting of Wharekauri Tahuna by Goldie was sold at the International Art centre in 2016 for a record price of $1.377million.

The Goldie painting owned by Te Kanawa up for sale this time round is estimated to sell for between $700,000 and $1m.
