Eight fire crews battle house fire located next to Westland petrol station

Eight fire crews have contained a house fire located next to a petrol station in Westland this morning.

Fire services were called to Seddon Street, in Kumara, at around 4.30am.

It's believed everyone has been accounted for and there are no injuries at this stage.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson told 1 NEWS crews will remain on the scene dampening down hotspots for some time.

A fire investigator will then work to determine the cause.

Six fire trucks and two tankers remain at the scene.
