Easter weekend has kicked off and while many around the country are enjoying the sunny weather, there are a few showers around the Auckland region.

The worst of the showers are north of the Auckland City with a few sunny breaks for those further south, according to MetService.

Tomorrow a cold front is forecast to move up South Island tomorrow, with northwest gales ahead of it about the high country, and heavy rain in the southwest.

Sunday looks to be the best day over the Easter weekend, with dry weather forecast for almost the entire country.

It's expected to be mainly fine for the North Island on Sunday with a few early showers in the east also about Auckland and Northland.

"There is no rain in the forecast for the three nights that Ed Sheeran is performing in Dunedin," says MetService's Gerrit Keyser.

"But on Saturday, there are showers around during the day for those travelling to the concert."
