Easter holiday road toll closes with seven deaths over long weekend — among deadliest in a decade

April 6, 2021

Seven people have died on our roads in recent days.

Seven people died on New Zealand roads over the Easter holiday period, making it one of the deadliest tolls in a decade.

All seven of the fatal crashes happened in the North Island, with several in Waikato.

The most recent crash was in Northland on Sunday.

The holiday period ran from 4pm on Thursday to 6am today.

The Easter holiday road toll ends at 6am on Tuesday.

It comes after no one was killed on the road this time last year, partly due to the country being in Alert Level 4 Covid-19 lockdown.
