An E.coli scare in Lower Hutt’s water supply has proven to be a false alarm.
Initial tests, revealed yesterday, returned a positive for the bacteria, which can cause vomiting and diarrhoea.
The organisation managing Wellington’s water supply confirmed further testing shows E.coli is not present.
Wellington Water says that indicates there had been a glitch with the initial sample.
The organisation had increased the levels of chlorine in Lower Hutt’s water as a precaution.
In Martinborough, people are still advised to boil water after E.coli was detected there last week.
It’s the second contamination there this year.
