Don't try this at home: Otago teens reach 80km/h in tow-ball grass surfing stunt

January 11, 2019

You've probably heard of a sea biscuit - but how about a land biscuit?

A pair of daring young Otago teens with some time on their hands have filmed themselves being pulled behind a car at speeds of up to 80km/h.

Patrick Ens said he and his brother had the idea earlier this week and decided to try the stunt and film it near their home in Kakanui, south of Oamaru.

The pair first tried pulling themselves along on a skateboard, reaching speeds of 50-60km/h, then progressed to a tire inside of a sack, with final speeds of up to 80km/h.

"It really hurt when we fell off 'cause the ground is so hard at this time of year and also all the grass getting sprayed in our face," Patrick said.

The stunt was not filmed on a public road.
