Do you know this man? Image released of man who was allegedly seen stealing whale jawbone from Papamoa Beach

A man is being sought for questioning after he was reportedly seen taking the jawbone of a beached whale on Papamoa Beach.

Police have released an image of a man allegedly seen taking the bone on Papamoa Beach near the Kaituna River on February 15 2018.

He is described as being 30 to 40 years old with tattoos on his upper left leg, face and neck.

The man was driving a Blue Toyota Hilux ute with the front registration plate taped over.

Taking the bone is an offence under the Marine Mammals Protection Act.

Police urge anyone who recognises this man or his truck, or anyone who witnessed this incident to contact Papamoa Police on 07 572 2440 or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
