Defence Force to assess landslides before convoy resumes journey to Kaikoura

The Defence Force will check out the safety of inland route 70 before trying to resume the progress of a convoy of more than 50 army personnel who are trying to get relief supplies to Kaikoura today.

It had to halt its convoy of 27 army trucks yesterday as further landslides had to be checked.

A spokesperson said they're hoping to get moving as soon as they can this morning as they really want to get into the quake-affected town.

Fine weather is forecast today.

The convoy is currently between Culverden and Waiau and are carrying diesel, fresh food, water and other aid supplies to assist the 250 patients and staff at Kaikoura Hospital for seven days.
