Daylight reveals extent of Auckland storm damage including roofs ripped off, fence toppled

There were more than 700 lightning strikes in just one hour on the evening of August 11.

Daylight has revealed the extent of the damage in the Auckland suburb of St Heliers after a fierce storm hit the city overnight.

The wild weather caused damage to buildings across the city, ripping up roofs and tearing down trees and powerlines.

A St Heliers resident says he was left shaken after his neigbour's roof was thrown into the backyard .
