Daily Air New Zealand flights from Christchurch to Singapore to take off in 2019

December 7, 2018

One year from now, Air New Zealand will start offering daily weekday flights from Christchurch to Singapore, the airline announced today.

The flights - which will take place seasonally, from December to February - are part of the Kiwi company's alliance with Singapore Airlines, which already operates a similar route.

"We're deploying our larger Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft on the route, which will increase capacity as well as add more premium seating to the route," said Nick Judd, who serves as Air NZ's chief strategy, networks and alliances officer.

"These changes will ultimately deliver greater choice, great connectivity beyond Singapore and increased connections into the domestic New Zealand network," he continued in the airline-issued statement.

The decision was hailed today by Christchurch Mayor Lianne Dalziel and by Christchurch Airport officials.

Having both airlines offering the flights "reinforces Christchurch and the South Island as a priority market", said Christchurch Airport's Justin Watson, who serves as chief aeronautical and commercial officer.

The flights will start on 1 December 2019, with ticket sales starting next month.
