Critically injured man flown to hospital following serious assault in Wairoa

A man has been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition following a serious assault in Wairoa overnight.

Police were called to a medical centre on Kitchener Road about 1.15am today, following reports a man had presented with serious injuries, police said in a statement.

The man was flown to Hawke's Bay Hospital.

Police inquiries are ongoing.
