A path in a Nelson park could become an alternative aisle for a bride and groom because the wedding venue they booked for their wedding this weekend is inside the cordon of the Tasman fire.
Eighteen months of wedding planning has come undone for bride Shannon Cassidy and fiancé Ryan who're expecting 140 guests this weekend, TVNZ1's Seven Sharp reported.
"I started planning day one. And the first thing we did was book the venue," Shannon said.
The venue, Spring Grove Hall, is "smack bang between Brightwater and Wakefield. And at the moment all those roads are shut," she said.
With Shannon frantic on the phone in search of anywhere to hold their big day, Ryan posted to social media.
The response was overwhelming, with venues like The Playhouse offering their space.
'Hands down, this is why we couldn't believe everyone's responses. And the fact it's gone so viral, to me this last of people's worries. There's so much going on out that way," Shannon said.
And if the cordon doesn't lift in time the couple may have settled on a ceremony venue, at least.
A public park in Nelson "could well be" their aisle, Shannon said.
"It is a beautiful location. And we are very lucky that we have the chance to use places like this. So this could be it," she said.
"Hands down, no matter where it ends up, I know it's going to be incredible."
Shannon and Ryan see their wedding woes as a non-issue compared to the plight of others affected by the fires.
"It just breaks my heart to think of people that may lose their homes. Wedding you can move, house you can't," Shannon said.
