Controversial Wellington Māori leader Sir Ngatata Love dies

He was the former chair of the Wellington Tenths and Port Nicholson Block settlement trusts, and was convicted of fraud in 2016.

Controversial Wellington Māori leader Sir Ngatata Love has died after a battle with liver cancer.

He was 81.

Sir Ngatata died last week and was cremated after a private tangi, his daughter, Catherine Love, said.

Sir Ngatata was the former chair of the Wellington Tenths and Port Nicholson Block Settlement trusts.

He was jailed for two-and-a-half years after being convicted of fraud in 2016, and was released on parole one year ago.
