Christchurch residents bracing for news on bylaw to regulate street-based sex work

October 11, 2017

The police have dropped their support for the bylaw, saying it would be difficult to enforce.

Christchurch residents are bracing themselves for the news that council will not be introducing a bylaw to regulate street-based sex work.

A feasibility report will be given to the council's regulatory committee this morning into whether or not prostitutes can be banned from working in residential areas.

The police have dropped their support for a bylaw, saying it would be difficult to enforce.

This follows years of campaigning by residents as prostitutes and clients have moved closer to residential neighbourhoods after the quakes.
