The slice of prime real estate comes complete with a few unique extras.

A slice of prime real estate is on the market in central Christchurch and it comes complete with a few unique extras such as a cellblock and custody wing.

The former police station in central Christchurch is expected to fetch up to $30 million.

It's owned by developers and was the temporary home for more than 600 police after the earthquakes forced the demolition of the long standing central station.

1 NEWS reporter Donna-Marie Lever got a tour of the station up for sale and found it's a bit dark and dingy, made up by a maze of corridors and eerie rooms.

Hamish Doig of Colliers International real estate agents pointed out the "commercial kitchen with full walk in chillers" in the property of more than 7,000 square metres and 168 carparks.

"We could see this working really well potentially for a hotel or flashpackers," he said.

There are few unusual selling points too and features you won't find in many modern builds.

Mr Doig showed where "the guests of the Queen" would come in via roller doors and be put into holding areas before being moved into cells.

"I have had some people suggest it would make a fantastic bar."

As for the price tag, Mr Doig said he hoped for "somewhere between in the mid-twenties to thirty million".

Agents say the possibilities for the old cop shop are endless.

"We've got some interest from off shore which is good. We've had interest from the motor vehicle industry. Maybe a geriatric hospital, all one level," Ms Doig said.

The property is open for offers until December 14.

Police moved into the new justice and emergency services precinct early this year.
