Christchurch homeowner ends hunger strike after agreement reached with Government earthquake insurer

April 25, 2018
Christchurch homeowner Peter Glasson says he's lost five kilos but his lawyers and Southern Response are negotiating.

Christchurch homeowner Peter Glasson's hunger strike in a bid to have his earthquake insurance claim settled has ended, Southern Response, Mr Glasson and his wife said in a joint statement.

Mr Glasson, his wife Anne, and their lawyer have reached an agreement with Southern Response which will see their case enter an ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) process, instead of through the courts.

The pair are looking forward to having the issue resolved in the near future.

Mr Glasson began a hunger strike outside the office of government insurer Southern Response nine days ago.

Southern Response CEO Anthony Honeybone says, "Southern Response is pleased that an agreement setting out the way forward has been reached with the Glassons, and that Mr Glasson has decided to end his hunger strike.

"The residential Advisory Service (RAS) did a fantastic job facilitating the negotiations. RAS was established for this exact situation - to assist and support earthquake claimants through the claims process and disputes that might arise."
