Christchurch florist creates 50 bouquet tributes to victims of mosque attacks

March 17, 2019

Ginny Fagan had a plan to make a bouquet for each of the 50 victims but needed some extra pairs of hands.

Many Cantabrians, horrified by what had happened in their city, wanted to show their support for the victims' families and Islamic community, in some way.

For one florist, that meant making 50 bouquets for each of the 50 victims of the tragic shooting at two Christchurch mosques on Friday.

Yesterday via social media, Ginny Fagan asked for volunteers to help her and she was overwhelmed by the response.

"Within two hours I had over 60 people here and I had another 200 people messaging me saying, 'I want to help - what can i do?'

"Everyone felt the same as me and they just wanted to come and do something to help out," Ms Fagan said.

Flowers were donated by commercial growers and some just from people's back gardens.

Today there are 50 bouquets ready for each victim.

The bouquets will be delivered to families to go on display at burial grounds.

It's a loving gesture from a grieving community.
