Christchurch filmmaker creates poignant tribute to mosques attack victims

Filmmaker Gerard Smyth has spent days at the wall of the Christchurch Botanical Gardens documenting the emotional responses of a shocked city after last week’s tragic shootings.

Faces in the Flowers is a documentary that tells the story of how a city is grieving.

Made with the help of New Zealand On Air, the film speaks to the pain people are facing as they walk through the aftermath.

“People are bewildered,” he told TVNZ1's Seven Sharp last night.

“There’s a sense of trying to make sense out of what has happened."

He calls the documentary “cathartic” as he himself tries to make sense of the tragedy.
