Chinese beauty giant sends thousands of employees to Queenstown, expected to bring $37mil to NZ

The beauty and health giant's top sellers are arriving for what's a multi-million dollar business opportunity for NZ.

Employees from the Chinese health and beauty company Amway will be descending on Queenstown over the coming weeks in their thousands.

The top sellers from the multi-million dollar beauty giant will be arriving in 11 waves of more than 500 tourists each.

Tourism New Zealand and Destination Queenstown have been working for the last two years to secure this incentive trip, beating out eight other global destinations.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for us to show to the largest direct selling company in China, Amway, just how great our experiences are here," Tourism NZ’s Lisa Gardiner says.

Tourism NZ says the entire trip will bring in around $37 million into the Kiwi economy.

It's also the largest piece of incentive business we've ever had, where large companies reward their top employees.

"Using travel to reward and motivate staff is a trend that has really gained in popularity. For New Zealand this is a great piece of business," Ms Gardiner says.

And as the resort town heads into the autumn tourist drop-off, these extra visitors could be a big help in bridging the gap.

Destinations Queenstown's Graham Budd says the trip had been cleverly scheduled by Amway.

"It's ideal for incentive programmes like this because they can avoid the very busy times, which is good for them and it's good for us," Mr Budd said.

With a group of Amway sellers already on our shores, it's evident the trip isn't disappointing.

"I think it's one of the most beautiful places I have ever been," Amway seller Bong Li said.

There's still 5,500 Amway tourists yet to boost the New Zealand tourist industry.
