A car police were looking for in connection with a fatal house fire in Auckland last night has been found in Mt Roskill, the same suburb where the blaze occurred.
A person was found dead in the house on Rainford St.
Detective Inspector Beard says the investigation is in its early stages and the cause of the fire and the death remain unexplained at this stage.
Police were looking for a red Honda Fit hatchback they said was linked to the Rainford Street address and it was found this evening on a Mt Roskill street.
It wasn’t at the property where the fiire occurred and police had been looking to establish why it wasn’t there.
A Fire Service spokeswoman told 1 NEWS three appliances were sent to a block of flats where the residence was well involved.
Fire crews found a body inside shortly after midnight.
Police say they cannot confirm the victim's identity until further enquiries are completed.
