Car crashes into Nelson-area library, leaving 'big hole'

A car has backed into a building causing a loud bang and leaving a "a big hole".

A police spokesperson said they responded to reports of a car crashing into a building on Putaitai St, in the Nelson suburb of Stoke, about 10am today.

An eyewitness from the Red Cross Shop on Neale Ave told 1 NEWS there was a "loud bang" and "everyone rushed outside to have a look".

She said it looked like a car was parked and accidentally reversed into Stoke Library, leaving a "big hole in the window".

There are no reports of injuries, but St John responded, the police spokesperson said.
