A unique motorsport event in Christchurch is set to answer the question of whether electric vehicles can outpace their petrol-fueled rivals.
The Evolocity event at Mike Pero Motorsport Park is aimed at showing off the performance and efficiency of electric vehicles.
Its attractions include the world's fastest electric drag motorbike, which can go from 1-100km/h in a second.
Evolocity chief executive Rob McEwen says he wants to use the day of motorsport to combat misperceptions around electric vehicles.
"We want to dispel the myth that electric vehicles can't perform."
"I think most people when they get inside an EV for the first time, are blown away by the performance."
