Campsite evacuated as fire re-ignites at Taupō's Five Mile Bay

A Fire and Emergency NZ engine.

Fire crews have been called back to Taupō's Five Mile Bay to battle an out of control fire, which they initially believed was extinguished.

Ten crews and a helicopter are currently in attendance.

They were called back to the fire just after 8pm.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson told 1 NEWS the fire is bigger than before and has spread.

A nearby campsite has been evacuated and police have been called in to help.

No homes have been evacuated at this stage and there are no reports of injuries.

Crews were called to the initial blaze at around 4:30pm.

St John have also been notified.
