Business and health to benefit from new government funding for quake-hit Kaikoura

There's been renewed support today for quake affected areas as the government announced a wave of new initiatives, including $700,000 to help restore Kaikoura's tourism industry.

The latest round of money totals more than $1m and is designed to boost businesses and health services.

The tourism industry is worth in excess of $120m to the Kaikoura region, so the government is confident the investment will be a worthwhile one.

Also winning big in the announcement was healthcare, with residents of Kaikoura, Hurunui, and Marlborough getting an extra $250,000 for free quake-related GP visits.

Another $250,000 will be spent to strengthen mental health services in the affected regions.
