A bus carrying 39 passengers, a number of them children, has crashed off State Highway 49, five kilometres north of Tangiwai in the central North Island.
The bus came off the road around 2.30pm today, but did not roll.
A police spokeswoman said according to witnesses it appeared the bus lost control on a corner.
The bus is upright and "a long way off the road," the spokeswoman said.
Nobody was trapped but there were five people with minor injuries, though St John Ambulance said none needed to be transported to hospital.
A spokesman could not say whether any of the injured were children.
Police media could not say what had caused the crash or if the bus was a local, school or tourist vehicle.
No roads have been closed as a result of the crash.
