This morning’s train derailment at Britomart Station, which a passenger said left him “scared for a moment”, is being investigated by the Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC).

Auckland commuters face delays after a train de-railed at Auckland’s Britomart Station this morning.

Awais Tanveer said on Twitter that there was a “cracking sound” and some people did panic but overall everyone remained calm.

More than 30 people were on board when the train derailed this morning.

The 33 passengers on board the train were evacuated.

No one was injured in the incident and the train remained upright.

Passengers should expect delays with Britomart Station still closed.

The TAIC is sending two investigators to the site of the incident. They are due to arrive early this afternoon.

Chief Investigator of Accidents, Captain Tim Burfoot, said the train, operated by Transdev, is reported to have had 33 people on board when it derailed in the Britomart tunnel.

The Commission opens an inquiry when it believes the circumstances of an accident or incident could significant implications for transport safety, or when the inquiry may allow the Commission to make findings or recommendations to improve transport safety.
