Body found on Wairarapa beach believed to be that of missing 26-year-old pregnant woman

Wellington police have found a body believed to be that of missing 26-year-old woman Sonam Shelar, who hasn't been seen in more than three days.

Ms Shelar was five-months pregnant and was last seen at home on Cashmere Avenue in the suburb of Khandallah about 8.30am on Saturday.

Police say that while formal identification is yet to take place, the body discovered today is believed to be that of Ms Shelar.

Police have notified Ms Shelar's next of kin and the matter has been referred to the coroner.

The investigation is still ongoing and police are working closely with the family of the deceased to ascertain further facts.

Police want to hear from anyone who may have seen Sonam Shelar on Friday 16 November or Saturday 17 November 2018.

Sonam was last seen wearing a brown jacket with fur on the hood, as well as white, black and orange trainers.

They also ask residents with CCTV cameras showing the road or street in the areas of Cashmere Avenue, Onslow Road, Box Hill, Burma Road, Agra Crescent to contact Police on 04 381 2000 or via email to opzeplin@police.govt.nz
