A body found in a stream in the West Auckland suburb of Henderson on Monday has been confirmed as that of Auckland artist Adam Tan who went missing nearly three weeks ago.
A man's body was found in mangroves on Central Park Drive at the back of Trusts Stadium on Monday morning and police said today that he has been formally identified as 22 year-old Adam Tan.
Mr Tan's death will be referred to the Coroner.
Mr Tan disappeared from Waitakere Hospital around 3am on Octover 27. He had been taken there by his family after becoming distressed and had allowed himself to be admitted to the mental health unit on arrival.
His sister Cindy said earlier this week that Mr Tan was being escorted to the unit when he unexpectedly broke away from a security officer and a nurse, scaled a metal fence and ran through a car park before disappearing.
Friends and family of Mr Tan were desperately trying to find him and a Facebook page was set up to coordinate a search, while police also searched for him.
