Body believed to be of missing fisherman washes up on West Auckland beach

A body has washed up at West Auckland's Woodhill Forest Beach, near Muriwai.

The body was found by a member of the public, who notified police shortly after 8pm last night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Callum McNeill said while the formal identification process was yet to be completed, it is believed to be missing fisherman Myung Kang .

The 57-year-old Korean man vanished at Bethells Beach on Saturday. 

Search and Rescue teams, life guards and the police helicopter were used in an extensive search to find him after his family reported him missing Sunday evening.

The death will be referred to the Coroner.
