Beautiful Southern Alps lupin flower on environmental hit list

Some believe the purple blooms add to the beauty of the landscape.

A stunning purple flower lights up the Southern Alps this time of year and makes an extraordinary landscape even more beautiful.

However, there's a problem.

The Russell lupin is a pest and the Department of Conservation (DOC), among others, want it eradicated.

Tourists are big fans of the flower, however, and the plan to wipe it out isn't popular with everyone, as Seven Sharp discovered in the video above.
