March 22, 2018

The bromance between former President Barack Obama and John Key is going well if this moment on a golf course today is anything to go by.

Former US President Barack Obama is playing golf today at a prestigious course at Mangawhai Heads, north of Auckland.

Video shot by 1 NEWS shows Mr Obama, dressed in white wearing a grey cap and former Prime Minister Sir John Key, dressed in a mauve shirt and white cap, at the Tara Iti golf course.

It appears the pair are playing with a handful of others.

A no fly zone was issued over the area this morning.

It's thought the former US President will play at Tara Iti.

Yesterday, the former world leaders played 18 holes at Kauri Cliffs in Matauri Bay, Northland.

He was a big hit wherever he went.

Tara Iti has been described as New Zealand's most expensive golf course, and like Kauri Cliffs, wraps along the Northland east coast overlooking the sea.

The President's golfing entourage yesterday included Sir John, his son Max, Kiwi businessman Craig Heatley, and former US Ambassador to New Zealand Mark Gilbert.

It is believed team NZ won the golf in a playoff, after they were all square after 18 holes.

Obama is in the Bay of Islands, where he's believed to be spending a night at a luxury hideaway.

Later today, Mr Obama will meet with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern before a 1000 guest dinner in Auckland.
