'Back to politics!' – Rival MPs reigned into line after side-tracked by fitness regimes

October 18, 2017

National’s Chris Bishop and Labour’s Kris Faafoi were supposed to be discussing government.

Meetings, haircuts and fitness regimes are on the cards for waiting MPs yet to find out if their party will be taking power of New Zealand.

"The work of an MP doesn't just involve sitting around waiting for our leaders to finish coalition talks, we've got constituents to meet, meetings to have..." said National MP Chris Bishop on TVNZ1's Breakfast this morning with Labour MP Kris Faafoi.

"And a haircut," interjected host Daniel Faitaua.

"And fitness to get," Mr Bishop said.

"Do you reckon Brodie would take me and Faafs [Mr Faafoi] out for one of her fitness regimes," he asked, after Breakfast sports reporter Brodie Kane worked out this morning with reality TV stars Art Green and Matilda Rice.

"Art and Matilda look pretty into it, I don't know if Kris and I would be quite that into it.

"It'd be funny TV though," said Mr Faitaua. "All-right boys, back to politics."

The pair said they have been asked by constituents about the time it was taking for the coalition negotiations to come to an end.

"You gotta go through the trudge and the hard work like anything else," Mr Faafoi said.

He apologised to those who were unhappy with the amount of time it was taking, but said "You've gotta do this right".

"We're deciding the next government of the country, that's pretty important stuff," Mr Bishop said.
