An Auckland police officer has been charged with dangerous driving over an alleged fleeing driver incident while he was on duty.

Auckland City District Commander Superintendent Karyn Malthus says the 30-year-old male officer was charged following a review of a fleeing driver incident that allegedly occurred on-duty while undertaking urgent driving duties.

Police summonsed the officer from the Auckland City District to appear in court on a charge of dangerous driving, and he appeared in the Auckland District Court earlier today, Ms Malthus said in a statement this evening.

The officer is currently on restricted duties, she said.
