Some Auckland cricket fans have had their viewing party cut short after the bar they were watching the game at closed early - because it didn't have an extension or a special liquor license.

The Fox Sports Bar had been showing the final, and gave fans plenty of warning it would close its doors at 4.30am sharp.

The owner says it is disappointing that a one-off extension could not be granted.
