Auckland bus drivers' strike called off after union reaches agreement with NZ Bus

April 19, 2018
More than 1000 Auckland drivers have walked off the job as they fight for better wages and conditions.

Further strike action by Auckland bus drivers has been called off after unions representing the drivers reached an agreement with NZ Bus.

The two-year agreement, which came after seven months of negotiations, will be put to the drivers for approval next week.

Claire Neville, NZ Bus general manager operations, says the agreement provides certainty to passengers.

The company supported the unions in their bid to improve work-time rules to address stress and fatigue among the drivers.

CTU national president Richard Wagstaff hailed the deal as a new benchmark for wages and industry work practices in Auckland.

“NZ Bus is a fair employer and although negotiations were protracted and tough, they have been conducted in good faith, allowing us to reach a good agreement for drivers,” Wagstaff says.
