ASB Good as Gold: Parents who continued to serve community in midst of child's cancer battle win $10k

February 13, 2019

“We’ve got a very special surprise today.”

As deputy principal of the local high school, Pete Davies and his wife Sarah are involved in fundraisers, coaching, logistics for school trips, you name it.

But what makes it more remarkable is that they’ve continued to serve the local community while caring for their youngest son, Jock, who was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia.

Seven Sharp decided to surprise them with $10,000 as part of their weekly ASB Good as Gold segment.

“Couldn’t think of a more deserving family, who’ve managed to continue to help the community even while they’ve been going with this huge personal struggle themselves,” said one of their many fans.

Ms Davies said she thinks the family might put the $10,000 they’ve won towards a trip to this year’s Boxing Day Test to watch the Black Caps take on the Australians at the MCG.
