Ambulance rolls, injuring seven in South Auckland

Seven people were injured after an ambulance crashed with a crash with a car and rolled onto its side in Ōtara, Auckland last night. 

Emergency services responded to the crash shortly after 10.30pm last night on Bairds Road, near the intersection of East Tamaki Road.

St John District Operations Manager for Auckland Glenn Metcalfe told 1 NEWS today an ambulance was involved in the crash while it was travelling to an emergency under lights and sirens.

Three ambulance officers and four members of the public were assessed at the scene and transported to Middlemore Hospital with moderate or minor injuries, he said. All seven involved in the incident have been released from hospital.

A second ambulance responded to the original patient last night. 

"St John takes the health and safety of our patients and ambulance officers very seriously and is providing support to those involved," Mr Metcalfe said.

St John is investigating the incident and was working with police.

Police told 1 NEWS they were investigating the incident, but could not comment further on the circumstances of the crash.
