3-D technology behind new 'game changing' scanner for Auckland Airport

December 18, 2018

A new million-dollar scanner was unveiled today at Auckland Airport.

The scanner, featuring 3-D imaging, will now be able to detect risky items which have previously been tricky to pinpoint.

These include items such as dried meat, stink bugs and goods hidden behind laptops.

Biosecurity Minister, Damien O’Connor, says it’s a "game changer" for biosecurity.

"It is the most sophisticated piece of X-ray technology we could have in place to support our officers at Auckland Airport and provides another useful tool in our multi-layered biosecurity system, sitting alongside 50 detector dog teams, arrival cards, risk assessment and public awareness campaigns," he says.
