A world class fiddler has hung up her instrument to work on a special project to mark the centenary of WWI and the ANZAC campaign.
Marian Burns has composed a special song named Beautiful Soldier in recognition for the ultimate sacrifice thousands of Kiwi soldiers made for New Zealand.
"They were taken away and given a gun and a uniform and told to fight in a war," she told ONE News.
"We have freedom, we have our lives because of those guys, I'm in awe of them, it's so special."
While Ms Burns has toured the world performing, and won several top awards in her long career, she says the song is the biggest project she's ever undertaken.
"It's massive for me."
It's been a personal journey guided by her grandfather who served as a medic in WWI.
"We were just weeping the other day looking at his photo and thinking wow he was one of those guys that went off," she says.
The single goes on sale on iTunes on March 1 and will be played at commemoration services across the country on ANZAC Day this year.
