Prince Harry bumped into someone special from his past when he was out and about in Christchurch today, his former school matron Vicki McBratney.
Ms McBratney looked after the prince for one year at Ludgrove School in England where Harry was a pupil in 1997.
"It was just really nice to connect with him again today. I wasn't sure he'd remember me," Ms McBratney said.
Ms McBratney says Prince Harry looked "shocked" to see her waiting for him at the front of the crowd in Cashel Mall. The prince greeted her with a handshake and a kiss and said "so nice to see you again".
Ms McBratney remembers the young prince as a "typical 12-year-old".
"He was really loving and funny," she says.
She said the prince "probably" hasn't changed since then. "He's just a lovely man," she added
