‘I’m angry’ – Pipi Mā factory burgled two weeks before Christmas

December 10, 2018
The pair behind the Pipi Ma sat down and spoke with TVNZ1's Breakfast today.

The owners of the much-loved Pipi Mā woke up this morning to find their factory had been burgled.

Owner Kirsten Ross told Te Karere more than $4000 worth of goods were stolen including computers, iPads, TVs and cash.

“This is our busiest time of the year, so many gifts to send out to children across the country and world and then this happens,” Ms Ross.

Pipi Mā is a Te Reo Māori cartoon.

“It’s not just the dolls but stuff that we have saved up to buy and then some thief comes and takes them overnight, I’m angry.”

Ms Ross says they did everything in their power to protect their property in Whakarewarewa, Rotorua, from thieves.

“We have an alarm, we locked the property and there is a gate that is also locked around all the six factories here.

“So, the person has come in by foot and taken the goods out through the windows – it’s so annoying.”

Police say that they are making inquiries and examining the scene as well as reviewing CCTV footage captured by a neighbouring property.

“We have spoken to police and put it out on Facebook – the word is out, so we will soon see what happens to the offender.”
