Kiwi arrested over alleged cyber sex crime against London teen

A New Zealand man has been charged with blackmail after allegedly trying to extort a British teenager into performing sex acts online.

Hands using a computer.

According to police from the Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE), the teen began communicating with an unknown man and ended up sharing inappropriate images of herself over the internet.

However, she refused to cooperate when the 35-year-old allegedly tried to force her into performing certain explicit acts online and contacted police, several international news sources have reported.

The accused's arrest comes following an investigation by the ICE in March 2013 following complaints from a 16-year-old in London.

They eventually uncovered his identity and contacted New Zealand authorities when they discovered he was a Kiwi national.

According to media, local police executed a search warrant of the man's home last month, leading to his arrest and subsequent charge.

He is due to reappear in the Palmerston North District Court in February.
