Quiz master Paul Sinha from The Chase is coming to New Zealand for the International Comedy Fest.
Paul Sinha - aka the Sinha Man - has been a professional comedian for 20 years.
He told TVNZ 1’s Breakfast he used to be a doctor but wanted a change.
“It was sort of mid-life crisis really, I was a professional doctor for many years. I just thought I want to be doing something else with my life.
“It’s actually my 20 year anniversary of being professional and actually getting paid for it.”
He says his gig on the popular daytime television show helped him with his comedy career.
“It’s helped my comedy career a lot because people actually know who I am now and that changes your life.
He described his style of comedy as storytelling with jokes.
“I’ve got a very unusual life, as far as I’m aware I’m the only openly gay, British, Asian, qualified doctor and competitive quizzer in the international comedy scene, you’d be astonished by the number of stories that gives you really."
He also says a lot of his comedy comes from being a minor celebrity.
"It's one thing being a major celebrity, but being a minor celebrity brings all sorts of weirdness in your life.. ... people walk up to you and think you're someone else or they're not quite sure who you are.
“I get a lot of people saying 'you know you look a lot like that guy off The Chase but not as fat'.”
He says his humour is a lot more adult than you might think too.
“It is certainly not for kids, what I talk about on stage.”
