Lorde was just four songs in to her set at Chicago's massive Lollapalooza Festival when she was forced off stage due to severe weather.
The stunning news saw the evacuation of tens of thousands of fans from the festival grounds as a severe weather warning icon flashed up on the large screen next to the stage.
The Kiwi singer seemed keen to continue on as workers mopped copious amounts of rain off the stage, but her production manager came on stage to shut the gig down due to safety concerns.
"The festival just said the weather is too crazy for us to play right now," Lorde told the massive audience who were packed in to see her.
"I will be back for you I promise, I'm going to do everything I can. We'll be back, have a drink. I'm sorry, I love you, I'll be back."
Lorde then left the stage to a mix of boos and cheers from the crowd who were obviously disappointed with the news.
Lollapalooza sent out a tweet announcing the four-day festival was cancelled for the rest of the day.
They are hoping to resume the festival tomorrow.
