Following its release yesterday, the trailer for Kiwi director Taika Waititi's film Thor: Ragnarok has quickly crushed previous Disney records, making it the most viewed trailer in the company's history.

The trailer for the much anticipated next instalment from the Marvel franchise has already been watched millions of times just hours after its release.

Reports just in from The Hollywood Reporter show the clip was watched a record-breaking 136 million times in just 24 hours, beating out its nearest Disney rival, Beauty and the Beast , which had an impressive 127.6 million views in the 24 hours after its release.

Even more impressively perhaps (due to the ravenous fan-base) the Waititi helmed flick also beat 2015’s Star wars: The Force Awakens, which had 112 million views in its first 24 hours.

The trailer easily eclipsed fellow Marvel stable mate Captain America: Civil War, which previously held the record number of views for a Marvel film with 94 million in the same time frame.

However, Thor's trailer was no match for the spine-tingling teaser for the upcoming reboot of Stephen King’s classic horror tale It, which debuted to a whopping 197 million views in the 24 hour period from March 29 earlier this year.

Taika Waititi celebrated the massive achievement on Twitter earlier today, reposting the original story from The Hollywood Reporter.

The trailer also made headlines yesterday after an eagle eyed Vanity Fair reporter spotted a Kiwi themed easter egg hidden in the clip.

The words 'skux life' were painted in graffiti just over Thor’s right shoulder during an action scene, providing a nice nod to his 2016 hit film The Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

Those with a very keen eye spotted the catch phrase graffitied on the wall in a split second scene from Thor: Ragnarok's trailer.

Thor: Ragnarok will be smashing its way into Kiwi cinemas on October 26, 2017.
