Taika Waititi reveals he injected jokes just for Kiwis into blockbuster Thor: Ragnarok

October 16, 2017

The ever hilarious Kiwi director Taika Waititi spoke to 1 NEWS Australia reporter Kim Downs at the red carpet of his movie Thor.

The red carpet is still being rolled out for Kiwi director Taika Waititi and the stars of his film Thor: Ragnarok with the Australia premiere in Sydney last night.

Posing for selfies with his star-studded cast, Taika told 1 NEWS the experience of making a mega superhero blockbuster was "very surreal".

"This is the biggest thing I've done," he said.

"The big difference for me was the scale and the amount of people involved."

Thor director Taika Waititi and Chris Hemsworth showed their unique bond on the red carpet for the premiere of Thor in Australia.

When asked by 1 NEWS Australia reporter Kim Downs about his favourite scene in his movie he revealed it was the "banter" scene between Chris Hemsworth's character Thor and Mark Ruffalo's character Hulk.

"That for me was when I felt like it was really one of my films; two superheroes talking about nothing."

Taika also revealed he has placed some little moments into the film especially for a Kiwi audience.

One of those being an alien character with a Kiwi accent played by himself which he says he added in to the film to make Kiwis laugh.

"I can't wait for Kiwis to hear that character and to finally see all the in jokes for the Aussies and Kiwis that we put into this thing and all the space ships in this thing we named after Holdens. The little things that only we would get."

The Australian had nothing but praise for his good friend Taika Waititi on the red carpet for the latest Marvel film Thor.

For Chris Hemsworth who plays Thor, his favourite part about filming the latest installment of Marvel franchise was working alongside Taika.

"He is the absolute reason this film is being received the way it is and has the tone because of him and his and his wacky sense of humour. Nothing better; it's what it needed," he told 1 NEWS.

He says Taika gave him the freedom to step away from the script and improvise with the character.

Thor: Ragnarok opens in New Zealand on October 25.
