Malcolm Turnbull cops flak after he's unable to name a single AC/DC song

November 20, 2017
Despite a recent rocky history, the two PMs today set out to show they've put aside differences.

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is coping flak on social media after being unable to name any song by quintessential Aussie hard rock band AC/DC in a radio interview following the death of the group’s co-founder Malcolm Young.

The PM dodged the question from hosts on Triple M Brisbane when asked what was his favourite AC/DC song during a phone interview.

“Ah…well, tell me, what’s your favourite?” he replied.

The hosts may have been trying to help him out as they listed iconic songs Long Way to the Top, Back in Black and Highway to Hell.

But Turnbull said his favourite song “from that era” was If you leave me by Mental as Anything.

"I'm very romantic and that's the old romantic in me," he said.

Social media users fired jibes at the PM.

“Breaking: Turnbull cancels Parliament to avoid AC/DC questions in Question Time,” one person tweeted.

Another wrote: “I actually wouldn't have minded if Turnbull had said he knew of AC/DC but not their music. But to cite another act's songs is unacceptable.”

The death of Malcolm Young, the rhythm guitarist and guiding force behind AC/DC, at the age of 64 was announced at the weekend.

He’d had a long battle with dementia.
