Lorde, Ladi6, Swidt in the running at tonight's Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards

Seven Sharp's Tim Wilson hits the streets to get advice for the global pop icon.

The stars of the New Zealand music scene will align tonight at the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards in Auckland.

The event is taking place at the Spark Arena, where acts like David Dallas, Lorde, Ladi6 and Swidt are nominated for awards.

Other acts include Alien Weaponry, Aldous Harding, Aaradhna, Anika Moa, Broods, Brooke Fraser, Maala, Shapeshifter, Six60 and the Koi Boys.

Guests begin arriving on the red carpet about 6pm and members of the public are able to attend that part of the awards.

Team NZ sailors got into the spirit with the Kiwi musician in at The Viaduct today.

The New Zealand Music Awards began in 1965 under a different name, and is colloquially known as "The Tuis".
