The famed American director is in town to attend the New Zealand premiere of his new movie The Hateful Eight.

Stopping to talk to ONE News on the red carpet, Tarantino said his new film was similar to smash hit Django Unchained, albeit a bit more on the brutal side.

"It's a western, and picks up where Django left off, after the civil war," Tarantino told ONE News.

"Unlike Django there a no good guys, there are bad guys and worse guys who we've trapped in a room to hash out all their problems together."

He seemed overjoyed to be on Kiwi soil, saying he'd "been wanting to come here forever, and now is the time to do it".
