One of the stars of MTV's hit reality TV show Jersey Shore has been sentenced to prison for tax evasion.

Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino appeared in the New Jersey federal court this morning where he was given an eight month prison sentence for the charge, along with two years of supervised release.

Sorrentino must also pay a $15,500 fine within 30 days and complete 500 hours of community service.

The 36-year-old was a central figure in the MTV series from it's inception in 2009 until 2012. He recently returned to the show's spinoff, Jersey Shore Family Vacation.

Earlier this year, Sorrentino pleaded guilty to two charges of concealing income and tax evasion after he was indicted in 2014 for falsifying business and personal taxes between 2010 and 2012.

Sorrentino's brother, Marc, was also sentenced this morning, receiving two years imprisonment and a fine of $116,500.

The US Attorney in New Jersey charged both brothers for filing false tax returns as well as inaccurately reporting approximately $13.8 million in income.
